Glenn Poole struck the only goal of the game as Barnet earned a 1-0 win over Charlton in Saturday's pre-season friendly at Underhill.
Poole struck from close range after good work on the right by Mark Byrne and, although Charlton had chances to draw level, the League Two Bees held on for the win.
It was a good work-out for Charlton at a hot and humid Underhill, with Phil Parkinson naming a strong starting XI against Mark Stimson's Bees.
The fixture with the Bees was agreed as part of former midfielder Dean Sinclair's switch from Barnet to The Valley in 2007.
Midfielder Sinclair was out of contract at Underhill, but because he was under the age of 24, the Bees were entitled to compensation and a fee of £125,000 was agreed.
St Albans-born Sinclair, who was released by the Addicks in the summer following the end of his contract, spent time on loan with the Bees last term, before ending the season at Grimsby Town, who were relegated from League Two on the final day of the campaign.
The Addicks sent a relatively young side to Barnet for a pre-season friendly last summer, but brought a strong squad to North London this time around.
Rob Elliot was named in goal, with Chris Solly at right-back, captain Christian Dailly and Gary Doherty at centre-half, and Johnnie Jackson on the left.
Scott Wagstaff started on the right, with Jose Semedo and Alan McCormack in the middle and Kyel Reid patrolling the left.
Akpo Sodje and triallist Guillem Bauza were the front pairing, with Tamer Tuna, Conor Gough, Therry Racon, Miguel Llera, Yado Mambo, Alex Stavrinou, Lewis Perkins and Ben Davisson on the bench. The substitutes were joined by triallists James Mulley and Gunnar Thorvaldsson.
Familiar names in the Barnet line-up were Jake Cole, Anwar Uddin, Rossi Jarvis, Glen Southam and Steve Kabba. Manager Stimson also named his son Charlie on the bench.
Almost a year to the day, veteran marksman Paul Furlong opened the scoring for Barnet in the 24th minute after a mistake from Kelly Youga, before Albert Adomah bundled home a second just before the end as the Bees secured a 2-0 friendly win over a young Addicks side.
Last October, Charlton defeated Barnet 4-1 in the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Izale McLeod, Tuna, Nicky Bailey and Wagstaff were on target for the Addicks that night.
Prior to that, the last competitive meeting between the sides came in the first round of the League Cup, Lee Bowyer scoring twice in a 2-0 second-leg win at The Valley after a goalless draw at Underhill.
The inaugural meeting between the sides was in the third round of the FA Cup in January 1992, with Charlton 'hosting' the tie at Upton Park. Barnet took the lead on that occasion but a goal from Steve Gatting drew Charlton level before the break. Carl Leaburn and Kim Grant then netted in the second period to complete a 3-1 victory.
The opening few minutes of the latest encounter were punctuated by several soft free-kicks awarded to the hosts, with referee Grant Hegley having an early word with Semedo.
On Underhill's famous sloping pitch, the first pressure from Charlton came in the 10th minute when they were awarded a free-kick on the left flank after Bauza was chopped down by Uddin. Jackson aimed the free-kick towards Doherty but his flighted ball was cleared to safety.
Elliot was called into action for the first time in the 13th minute when Bees triallist Kabba robbed Doherty of possession but saw his deflected effort from 20 yards well held by the Charlton goalkeeper.
The Addicks were forced into a change in the 19th minute, Stavrinou replacing McCormack, who fell to the ground with no Barnet player around him.
A minute later Kabba forced another good save from Elliot with an angled drive, while at the other end, Sodje met a Jackson corner but saw his effort go well wide. The same player then sent a 22-yard effort just wide of Cole's right-hand post.
A quick breakaway by Barnet then saw Charlton outnumbered at the back. Byrne fed Mark Marshall but, with Dailly at his heels, the Bees man fired wide.
In the 29th minute, Wagstaff did well on the right to get a cross in, Cole tipping it round the post for a corner, while Reid showed a good burst of pace down the left but saw his pull-back cleared to safety.
The Addicks looked set to take the lead in the 37th minute, Doherty's long pass putting Sodje through, but the striker's left-footed effort was well saved by Cole, with a Barnet defender getting back to clear as the ball lazily rolled towards the line.
A minute later, former Sheffield United man Kabba should have connected better with a header from a Marshall delivery, who then skinned Jackson but saw his cross hoofed away by Solly in what proved to be the final action of the half.
The second half began with Racon on for Stavrinou, who had only been on the field for 20-odd minutes after stepping off the bench himself.
The first action of the second period saw the impressive Marshall whip in a cross which a stretching Byrne could only turn over the bar under pressure from Wagstaff.
The Bees were to go in front in the 55th minute, however, when Byrne, finding himself in space on the right-hand side of the penalty area, crossed for Poole. The delivery took a deflection off Dailly's outstretched boot but Poole was still able to meet it from close range and beat Elliot's despairing dive.
Better play from Charlton in the 61st minute saw Solly link-up well with Sodje but the youngster's cross into the box was headed well wide by Wagstaff.
Barnet substitute Ricky Holmes then jinked into the box but his cross failed to find a teammate, before Racon's delivery at the other end from a similar position was cleared near to the goalline before Bauza could pounce.
Parkinson made a double substitution in the 73rd minute, Mambo and Thorvaldsson replacing Jackson and Sodje respectively. The change saw Solly switch to the left, with Mambo playing at right-back.
Icelandic striker Thorvaldsson almost scored with his first touch, meeting Wagstaff's floated cross but seeing his header flash just wide, before Racon saw a long-range drive deflected over for a corner.
Barnet cleared the resulting corner, but Thorvaldsson picked up the loose ball and found Doherty, who elected to try and control the pass instead of shooting first time and a Bees defender got back to tackle.
Davisson replaced Reid late on but had no time to influence proceedings as Charlton slipped to their second defeat of their 2010/11 pre-season campaign.
