Charlton 2
Bedford Town 1
CAFC XI 2 Bedford 1
Tamer Tuna's second goal in the space of five days and a late winner from Ben Davisson gave an Addicks XI a 2-1 victory against Bedford Town on Wednesday night.
As promised, manager Phil Parkinson fielded a number of the club's younger players from the outset against the Eagles as Charlton continued their preparation for the new campaign.
A typically clinical finish by Tuna put the visitors in front midway through the second half, but Craig Daniel equalised five minutes later following a Bedford counter-attack.
Winger Davisson had the final say, however, when his shot squirmed under the Town goalkeeper in the final minute to ensure victory for Parkinson's men.
It was another welcome win for the travelling Addicks, who next take on Barnet at Underhill on Saturday.
Charlton almost made the perfect start in Bedfordshire when Tuna, who scored in the closing stages against Kettering Town on Saturday, almost found the net with a delicate lob. The home goalkeeper was beaten, but was rescued by his crossbar.
An exciting start to the game then saw Bedford handed, almost literally, the chance to take the lead after just five minutes. It looked like Kyel Reid was penalised for handball in the area, but U18s goalkeeper Conor Gough saved Robbie Miller's penalty.
The match was 0-0 at the break, but Charlton soon made their general dominance of possession count.
Therry Racon was the instigator; the midfielder skilfully evaded two challenges on the right edge of the area and laid the ball back for Tuna to slot the ball into the net from eight yards.
Charlton's advantage proved short-lived, however. Daniel picked the ball up halfway into the visitors' half on the left-hand side, cut inside and beat Gough from the edge of the area.
Parkinson made a series of changes as the second period continued, and one of his substitutes would have the final say on the scoreline.
Davisson, whose 2009/10 pre-season was crudely curtailed by a broken ankle in an academy friendly against Gillingham, had entered the fray for Reid at half-time.
In the 90th minute, he collected a short corner from Alex Stavrinou on the edge of the area, cut inside and hit a testing shot which squirmed under the Bedford goalkeeper.
