Sacred Trust

It's been a busy few days for the Charlton Community Trust. Last Thursday saw hundreds of youngsters gather to meet the club's first-team players, on Saturday the trust launched its brand new website, and Monday saw the start of its latest series of fun football courses.

Jose Semedo and Dean Sinclair visited Coldharbour Leisure Centre, Mottingham last week, while Greg Halford and Chris Dickson were the special guests at White Oak Leisure Centre, Swanley.

But perhaps the biggest crowds of youngsters were attracted by Rob Elliot and Yassin Moutaouakil at Crook Log Leisure Centre, Bexleyheath as the Adicks players supported the regular Charlton Community Scheme Solutions programmes.

The duo spent an hour at the sports centre to answer youngsters' questions about life as a professional footballer, and sign plenty of autographs.

Charlton's Bexley community officer Carl Krauhaus said: "It was very good of Rob and Yassin to come and spend some time with the young people on our Charlton Challenge course at Crook Log.

"The kids came out with some great questions for the players and were very inspired by them. The event was a huge success and we are looking to repeat this in the near future."

The Charlton Challenge and Toddler Soccer programmes in Bexley are available at all Parkwood sports centres in the borough, from Crook Log and Erith to the new Sidcup Leisure Centre.

The website was launched with a grand fanfare before Saturday's Championship match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

And the site will now replace the sections on the official website as the main area for all matters related to the trust and Charlton Community Scheme Solutions, including the Charlton women's team, although www.cafc.co.uk will continue to update fans on the latest community news.

Meanwhile, the first of 37 football courses across Bexley, Greenwich and Kent got under way on Monday - but it's still not too late to book a place on some of the sessions in the final fortnight.

Children from five to 15 years old will be able to enjoy specialist coaching and the chance to play football under qualified coaches until April 18th.

And not only will every youngster be presented with a certificate of attendance as well as a Charlton goodie bag upon completing the programme, there are many more chances to scoop prizes - and perhaps even the opportunity to meet and question one of the club's first-team stars.
